Giorgos Alkaios

Born Giorgos Vasiliou in Athens Greece in 1971, Alkaios showed his love of music and sport at a young age. He played soccer at Panathinaikos FC Junior club, before turning to karate and later basketball. At the age of 16, he dropped out of school and received a degree as an electrician.

His recording career began in 1989 after appearing on a Greek reality show, Ela Sto Fos. Following a brief period of stage acting, Alkaios dedicated himself to music. His first single, “Ti Ti”, made him popular in Greece.

His distinctive musical style fuses Greek and Oriental elements with modern pop music. To date he has been certified with 5 platinum and 9 gold albums. Alkaios represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song “OPA”.

He performed in Melbourne at the Palace to a packed audience on 3rd December 2010.
